Juvenile severely injured after fight breaks out at party

A Somerset County man has been charged with attempted homicide after a fight broke out at a party in Jenner.

State police said Tyler Augustus Helmick, 19, of Boswell, and a male juvenile from Stoystown were at an underage drinking party on Pine Springs Camp Road Friday night when Mr. Helmick used racial slurs toward the juvenile. The juvenile then confronted Mr. Helmick and the two began fighting, according to police. Police said Mr. Helmick cut the juvenile's throat with a broken glass, causing several severe lacerations. The victim's condition was not available last night.

Mr. Helmick is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. He was arraigned before District Judge Joseph Cannoni.

Mr. Helmick was being held in Somerset County Jail on $50,000 bond.
