Schools recognized for achievement

The state Department of Education today recognized 1,939 public schools with Keystone Achievement Awards for making adequate yearly progress -- known as AYP -- for two consecutive years, 2007-08 and 2008-09.

In Pittsburgh, seven schools received the award for all six years the awards have been given: Banksville PreK-5, Dilworth PreK-5, Linden K-5, Phillips K-5, Rogers CAPA middle school, Sterrett 6-8; and CAPA High School.

In the rest of Allegheny County, 89 schools have made the list for all six years. In three districts, all of the schools have been on the list all six years. The districts are Avonworth, Brentwood and Hampton.
