State police in Somerset said a 15-year-old Jennerstown girl, sentenced to a youth facility, fled from a dental appointment in Cambria County yesterday and stole four cars, crashing three of them, before being caught.
The girl, who had been accompanied to the dentist in Richland by a Children and Youth Services worker, initially fled to Moxham, where she obtained a ride to Boswell. Police said she then stole a Buick Century along Center Street and drove to East Main Street, where she abandoned the vehicle.
From there, police said, she stole a Ford Taurus that she drove until she crashed the vehicle into a fence on Marts Road in Quemahoning.
The girl then walked to Taylor Road, where she stole a Pontiac Grand Am, which she crashed in the same area where she had crashed the Taurus.
After that, police said, she returned to the residence from which she had stolen the Pontiac and stole a Chevrolet Astro Van, which she drove to North Star High School to pick up another 15-year-old girl. The two girls left the school, driving east on Route 30 to Route 281, where the driver crashed the Astro Van.
The two girls were walking south along Route 281 when they were located by ambulance personnel. Both girls were treated for minor injuries.
Police said the first girl will be charged with escape, theft of motor vehicles, receiving stolen property and numerous traffic offenses. She was being held last night at a juvenile detention facility in Somerset County.
The second girl faces charges of receiving stolen property and numerous traffic violations.
