Carlynton High School juniors Chelsea Lanish, Lauren McCarl, Shelby Pelesky and Jacob Steiner represented the district at the Allegheny County 4-H program, "The Power of Youth in Government."

• Hyde Elementary School fifth-grader Nonoka Carlucci and third-grader William Thomas have received the Moon Area School District's Tiger Spirit Award.

• McKee Elementary School fifth-grader Sai Bhatte submitted a dance video to Carnegie Science Center and won the Roboworld Dance Contest. Sai's entry was the unanimous choice of the judges, who were all affiliated with various dance-related organizations across Pittsburgh. He received $500 and tickets for the June 2009 Carnegie Science Center Roboworld Preview event featuring a large robotics exhibition.

• Danielle Vescio has been elected president of the Student Council at St. Joseph Catholic School in Coraopolis.

Other officers are Elise Pinter, vice president; Tea Miksch, treasurer; Lana McCrackan, secretary; Angela Constantine and Olivia Babyok, historians.

Council representatives are Luke Ciarallio, fourth grade; Hannah Jozwiak and Brigham Karlik, fifth grade; Cara Gregorious and Matthew Wojtechko, sixth grade; John Grimm and Maria Macchione, seventh grade; and Renee Thorwart and John Wojtechko, eighth grade.

• Two West Allegheny High School band members were selected for the PMEA District 1 Honors Band festival. Senior Ron Radovich will serve as the first chair percussion section leader. Senior Kurtis Lutz was selected as a member of the French horn section.
