Construction on the Interstate 79 Neville Island Bridge that has caused lane restrictions and some traffic backups since Aug. 18 has been completed for the season, PennDOT announced.
Traffic restrictions ended today and will not resume until March, spokesman Jim Struzzi said.
The $20.8 million rehabilitation project includes concrete pavement reconstruction, pollution control, lighting, expansion joint replacement, steel repairs, expansion dam replacements, deck and substructure repairs, resetting bearings, bituminous pavement, signs and pavement marking, and other miscellaneous construction. It is scheduled for completion in October of next year.
The six-lane bridge, spanning the Ohio River, opened in September 1976 and was Pennsylvania's final piece of the 340-mile interstate highway linking Charleston, W.Va., and Erie.
