Marchers protest treatment of black city school children
Monday, November 16, 2009

About a dozen members and supporters of the Pittsburgh branch of the NAACP are marching outside Pittsburgh Public Schools headquarters in Oakland tonight to demand improved treatment of the district's black children.

The group is protesting the district's racial achievement gap, a consultant's school-closing proposal that would affect some black neighborhoods and the spending of too little money on career and technical education.

At least five of the protesters are expected to speak at the school board's regular monthly public hearing at 7 tonight.
