PIAA Soccer: Norwin tops Seneca Valley
Knights give Raiders first loss of year
Sunday, November 15, 2009

The Norwin girls' soccer team is at its best when it's up against the best.

Sisters Dana and Rachel DelleFemine each scored a goal to give Norwin a 2-0 upset victory against Seneca Valley in a PIAA Class AAA girls' soccer quarterfinal game yesterday at North Allegheny.

WPIAL champion Seneca Valley (22-1-1) entered the game undefeated.

Norwin (18-4-1) has made a habit of knocking off undefeated teams. The Knights beat then-undefeated Moon in the WPIAL playoffs. The Tigers had surrendered just one goal before their playoff game against Norwin.

"This team doesn't really care who they play," said Norwin coach Danielle Baginski. "They had a job to do, and they went out and did it."

Goalkeepers Jess Zack and Ali Viola combined for the shutout, propelling Norwin to the semifinals.

Norwin will play Baginski's former team Erie McDowell on Tuesday in the PIAA semifinals. Baginski still teaches at McDowell.
