Penguins beat Bruins, 6-5, in OT
Saturday, November 14, 2009

The Penguins' offense came back to life and they broke a four-game losing streak by beating the Boston Bruins, 6-5, in overtime tonight at Mellon Arena.

Pascal Dupuis scored his second goal of the game at 1:24 of overtime to win it for the Penguins.

Jay McKee scored on a lofted backhand off a feed from Evgeni Malkin at 1:42 of the first period to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead. It was the first shift for the line of Ruslan Fedotenko-Crosby-Malkin. Malkin is playing for the first time after missing seven games because of a right shoulder strain. It was his 200th career assist.

McKee, a defensive defenseman, had not scored a goal in 84 games, since Oct. 16, 2008.

The Bruins tied it, 1-1, when Blake Wheeler tucked the puck inside the right goal post at 8:29 of the first period.

Dupuis scored at 16:24 of the first period to put the Penguins ahead, 2-1. He caught up with a puck in the slot after a blocked shot and swept it into the left side of the net as Boston goaltender Tim Thomas was tied up with Penguins winger Matt Cooke.

Rookie defenseman Ben Lovejoy got his first career assist on Dupuis' goal, in his fourth career game.

The Bruins tied it, 2-2, at 3:33 of the second period. Following a giveway by Penguins center Craig Adams, Boston's Michael Ryder launched an unscreened shot from the right dot that sailed over goaltender Brent Johnson's near shoulder.

Sidney Crosby scored for the first time in eight games when he used the heel of his blade to deflect in a shot from the right point by Alex Goligoski at 9:19 of the second period to give the Penguins a 3-2 lead.

Boston tied it again, 3-3, at 15:02 of the second period when a shot by Derek Morris from the left point ticked in off the stick of Penguins defenseman Deryk Engelland. Just after that, Thomas stopped Malkin on a breakaway.

Another defenseman, Mark Eaton, gave the Penguins another lead, 4-3, when he converted a cross-ice feed from Crosby at 9:00 of the third period

The Bruins took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play to tie the game once again, 4-4. David Krejci roofed a shot from just above the crease at 14:13.

Zdeno Chara's blast from the right point deflected in off Marco Sturm to push Boston ahead, 5-4, at 17:31 of the third period.

Bill Guerin scored with 0.4 seconds left in regulation off a feed from Malkin to tie the game, 5-5.

The Penguins' three-game homestand concludes Monday against Anaheim.
