Teens arrested in Manchester with guns, drugs, cash
Friday, November 13, 2009

Three teenagers were arrested in Manchester last night after police on a routine patrol found them concealing a stash of heroin, loaded guns and more than $1,000 in cash.

One of the teenagers was 15; the other two were 16.

They were arrested at about 8 p.m. yesterday after police came across two teenagers, one of whom ran away and escaped, crouched in the bushes of a yard on Lake Street, said Sgt. Joseph Gannon.

When the officers shined a flashlight at the bushes, they immediately recognized the teenager who did not run as a "known gang member," said Sgt. Gannon.

After he was arrested, the officers found two SKS semi-automatic rifles and one 9mm handgun wrapped in a black jacket.

The officers then heard noise in a nearby vacant lot and found two more teenagers hiding with another 9mm handgun, 30 "stamp bags" of heroin and $1,141 in cash. The heroin had a street value of about $300, said Sgt. Gannon.

All of the weapons were loaded, he said. One rifle had an attached bayonet and 13 rounds in its magazine. The other rifle had an aiming device called a scope, and 16 rounds in its magazine.
