Police obtain warrant in McKeesport killing

Allegheny County police have an arrest warrant for an 18-year-old man accused of a fatal shooting in McKeesport this month.

Vernon "Skip" Rodgers faces a homicide charge in connection with the death of Derrick Smith, who was shot and killed Nov. 2 in the 1600 block of Sixth Street.

Mr. Rodgers is from the McKeesport area and has been known to frequent local hotels, police said. He is about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 145 pounds, and he recently had shoulder-length, braided hair. He has been described as "looking feminine," police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call county police at 412-473-1300. If anyone encounters Mr. Rodgers, they should immediately call 911.
