Robber makes off with thousands in Homewood
Friday, November 13, 2009

A man ran off with $11,000 after robbing the manager of an Exxon gas station in Homewood yesterday, police said.

About 1 p.m., the manager left the station in the 6600 block of Frankstown Avenue to make a bank deposit. As she entered her vehicle, the robber approached, said he had a gun and told her to give him her purse.

He said he had a gun, but the station manager later told police she didn't see one. The pair struggled over the purse until its strap broke. The robber then ran away with the purse.

According to surveillance video from a neighboring business, the robber entered the back door of a "very clean" dark green Buick Regal or Oldsmobile with chrome wheels.

The robber is described as a black male, about 25, with scruffy facial hair and a thin build.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the city robbery squad at 412-323-7151.
