A fire was intentionally set in a McKeesport building that houses the offices of District Judge Eugene F. Riazzi Jr. on O'Neil Boulevard.
A small fire resulted, but firefighters extinguished it within 30 minutes before it could spread to residential apartments on the second and third floors of the building, emergency dispatchers said.
No injuries were reported, and damage estimates were not immediately available.
The Allegheny County fire marshal is investigating with McKeesport police.
"I wasn't in any danger," Judge Riazzi said at the scene. "But," he said, "It was unsettling because people live in this building."
The district judge, who is a former police captain in McKeesport, said the fire bomb apparently was thrown through a window into his chambers in the office complex.
The distinct burn pattern indicates that an accelerant was used to fuel the fire.
No arrests have been made.
Judge Riazzi said he expects court to resume operations this afternoon.
