Dislocated workers will be eligible for waivers of tuition and fees this spring in 11 certificate programs at Community College of Allegheny County.
The opportunity is being offered through the Career Transition Center for Dislocated Workers. The program is available to county residents who have a letter from their employer showing they were laid off from a full-time position as a result of layoffs due to the economy, not through any fault of their own.
Those interested must apply for financial aid, maintain at least six credits per term and attend the college within one year of the layoff. The program covers 36 credits within a 24-month period.
The college announced the list of certificates covered today.
New participants may enroll in the following for spring 2010:
Allegheny Campus: emergency medical technician, basic (EMT) training course; EMT-paramedic; administrative computer specialist; and medical office manager.
Boyce Campus: Accounting
Downtown Center: nurse aide training program
North Campus: information technology support
South Campus: medical assistant; early education and child development; basic computer-aided drafting (CAD)
West Hills Center: welding technology
