Submit your WVU football question
Thanks much for your participation in the West Virginia football Q&A.
It is your job to ask the questions; my job to answer them -- so keep them rolling in. I will answer them as I get them each day throughout the season and through whatever bowl game the Mountaineers go to, as well as through signing day in February. Please remember to include your last name in submissions.
You can follow the Mountaineers daily here and at 'Eers to the Ground, a blog devoted to West Virginia football.
Also, take time each week to find your way into my live chat, it is each Thursday at 2 p.m.
Q: I'm wondering how many balls are coming Wes Lyons' way these days. It seems to me that in the spring when Jock Sanders was working his way back onto the team, that Lyons was given more opportunities. And he caught everything thrown his way. He also has blocked well on the games I've been able to see on TV.
Joe Gansor, Franklin, Va.
DUNLAP: The play of Wes Lyons -- mainly his lack of production -- has been noted time and again on this blog and in the coverage not just from this media outlet, but from just about all of them that regularly cover the West Virginia football team.
Not to be too hard on the young man, and it is very nice that he's developed into a solid blocker, but at 6 feet 8, I am not so sure that is what he was recruited to Morgantown to do.
I think, when the coaches eyed Wes in the recruiting process, they had an eye on him being an edge receiver and a guy who could go up and get balls over defensive backs. To this point -- and time is running out in his college career -- he has yet to show the ability to do that on a regular basis and in big situations (see: The final offensive play at USF).
As for Jock, I think he has proven, time and again, he will run any route (even the tough ones across the middle) and can be counted on more times than not to go and get the football. In my estimation, that is why the offensive staff feels much more confident getting him the rock.
