Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Jefferson Hills council last night adopted a preliminary $12.2 million budget for that contains no tax increase for 2010 the sixth consecutive year.

The vote was 4-0, but council members Jeffrey Weir, Kathleen Reynolds, and Janice Cmar were absent.

The $12.2 million includes a sewer budget of $3.8 million. The borough tax rate is 5.08 mills, with each mill generating about $560,000.

Budget highlights include the purchase of two trucks for the Public Works Department for $228,000 and $435,000 for road paving. There also is funding for the three new positions added in 2009: an additional full-time police officer, building inspector/code enforcement, and planner/zoning officer.

The 2009 budget amount was $11.8 million. Borough manager Douglas Arndt said the 2010 budget taps into about $200,000 of the borough's $2 million fund balance.

Council will discuss the preliminary budget at the Dec. 9 agenda meeting with final adoption scheduled at its Dec. 14 meeting.

The preliminary budget can be viewed at the municipal offices. It also will be posted soon on the borough's Web site, jeffersonhillsboro.org.
