Peters council accepts sanitary authority board resignation
Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Peters council members last night accepted the final resignation from the township's sanitary authority board, whose members voted themselves unapproved raises nearly two years ago.

Though council accepted the resignation of authority board member Robert Jacobs, they immediately reappointed him to serve the remainder of his term, until the end of 2013.

Mr. Jacobs was one of two authority board members who voted against raises in January 2008. The five-member board, which had been receiving a per-meeting stipend of $15, voted to also give themselves monthly salaries ranging from $115 for the board chairman to $100 for the other four officers. Council members were not made aware of the raises for a year and a half.

During a special meeting Nov. 2, council also approved the resignations of board Chairman George Khalouf and Vice Chairman John Slagle without reappointing them.

Council declined to accept the resignation of authority board Secretary Denver Yingling, who also voted against the raises, with the understanding that he would remain in his position until the end of the year, when his term expires.

Although they accepted the resignation of authority board member James Schafer, he also was asked to stay on board until a replacement could be found.
