About 80 security workers at the Rivers Casino on the North Shore yesterday voted against union representation.
The employees, who are full-time or regular part-time security officers, surveillance agents and technicians, had the opportunity to be represented by the International Union, Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America, but rejected the union during a secret ballot conducted by the National Labor Relations Board on casino grounds.
Ed Fasulo, the casino's president and chief operating officer, released a statement saying, "We take great pride in our work force and know that the future of Rivers Casino starts with them. We continue to respect our employees' right to choose, and while they always can elect to have a union, we very much value the partnership our employees chose."
The casino, which opened in August, employs nearly 1,000 people.
A representative of the union organizing group could not be reached for comment.
