Poor game-planning for Ohio State?
Penn State football Q&A with Ron Musselman
Monday, November 09, 2009

Q: Ron, what happened Saturday against Ohio State? It looked like JoePa and the coaching staff drew up the game plan on a napkin and then ripped it up before the game.

Jamie Jerall, Downingtown, Pa.

MUSSELMAN: Jamie, it was an ugly loss indeed. This game unfolded much the way the home loss to Iowa did at the end of September -- with Penn State getting dominated over the final few quarters. I am not sure where the conservative game plan came from -- JoePa, JayPa or Galen Hall -- but I'm not even sure good play-calling could have helped the Nittany Lions. The beleaguered offensive line got overpowered by Ohio State's front four and quarterback Daryll Clark failed in yet another attempt to win a big game. The usually steady defense unraveled, getting gouged for 228 rushing yards by the Buckeyes. Of course, it wouldn't be a Penn State loss without the special teams making a major contribution.
