Aliquippa claimed a surprisingly easy, 27-7 victory at McGuffey last night in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs
Darius Walker led the Quips with 113 yards rushing and one touchdown.
Walker scored on a 6-yard run in the first quarter, which staked No. 9 seed Aliquippa (9-1) with a 6-0 halftime lead against the No. 8 Highlanders (7-3).
The Quips pulled away with two third-quarter touchdowns by Rasheem Jones, who scored on runs of 2 and 8 yards.
Aliquippa netted 284 yards on the ground to 67 for McGuffey. It also held a 13-4 advantage in first downs. The Quips advanced beyond the first round for the fourth season in a row and the 12th time in 13 years.
The host Golden Eagles (9-1) posted their second shutout of the season by routing Burrell (7-3) at Dormont Stadium.
Keystone Oaks outrushed Burrell, 282-46, and had a commanding 391-114 edge in total offensive yardage. The Buccaneers were held to six first downs.
The Golden Eagles were led by Matt McCann, who rushed for 229 yards on 17 carries. McCann scored three touchdowns on runs of 4, 70 and 93 yards.
Keystone Oaks won its seventh consecutive game. It was the first playoff victory for the Golden Eagles since 2002 when they competed in Class AAA. Keystone Oaks was 0-2 in first-round games since its most recent playoff win before last night
The visiting Centurions (8-2), a No. 11 seed, toppled No. 6 seed Freeport (8-2).
David Miller rushed for 213 yards on 20 carries while scoring three touchdowns.
Greensburg Central Catholic also scored twice on touchdown passes from Trent Hurley.
Ross Deglau caught the first scoring pass from 16 yards and Andy Biros also scored on a 16-yard strike from Hurley. Both touchdown passes occurred in the second quarter as Greensburg C.C. led, 14-0, at halftime.
The Centurions rolled up 21 first downs and 383 total yards. It is the second consecutive season Greensburg C.C. has won a first-round game and it is the fifth time in six seasons that it has reached the quarterfinals.
Top-seed South Fayette (10-0) kept its spotless record intact with another huge performance by Christian Brumbaugh, who passed for 263 yards and three touchdowns in a rout of the visiting Bobcats (5-5).
Brumbaugh threw scoring passes of 24, 11 and 29 yards while completing 17 of 23 attempts. He has thrown 26 touchdown passes this season and is averaging 186 yards passing per game. Ryan Ross caught eight passes for 110 yards and scored a touchdown.
South Fayette, the Century Conference champion, advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time in nine years.
The host Trojans (9-1) scored in every quarter in a blowout of Washington (6-4).
Preston Dawson led Center with 118 yards passing and one touchdown, a 14-yard scoring connection with Josh Garrett.
The No. 3 seeded Trojans outgained the Little Prexies, 239-115. Center also amassed 17 first downs.
Center's victory gave the Midwestern Conference a 3-1 record in first-round play. Washington's defeat dropped the Interstate Conference to a 2-2 postseason record.
No. 2 Mount Pleasant (10-0) won in convincing fashion against visiting Kittanning (6-4).
Mount Pleasant held a 371-184 advantage in total offensive yardage while forcing the Wildcats into three turnovers.
Derek Mellors threw two touchdown passes for Mount Pleasant. Eric Wagner also returned the second-half kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown.
The Vikings led, 45-0, after three quarters and missed their fourth shutout in five outings when Kittanning scored on the final play of the game.
