CCAC trustees vote to approve SEIU personnel contract
Friday, November 06, 2009

Trustees at the Community College of Allegheny County voted yesterday to approve a new three-year contact with 384 secretarial, library, accounting, clerical, housekeeping and maintenance personnel.

The pact with the Service Employees International Union Local 668 is retroactive to Sept. 1 and runs through Sept. 1, 2012. It provides for annual pay raises of 3 percent, CCAC spokesman David Hoovler said.

Mr. Hoovler said the union previously ratified the accord. Average pay across the bargaining unit was $16.88 per hour prior to the agreement, he said.

Also at the trustees meeting, members were briefed on quarterly financial statements that initially reflected a roughly $9.2 million revenue shortfall in CCAC's operating budget, mostly due to the delay in passage of the state budget. The finance committee informed the board that those funds have now arrived and the gap has been filled, with the expectation of about $269,000 related to lost interest from that money and other investment declines, Mr. Hoovler said.

CCAC's operating budget this year is approximately $111 million. Mr. Hoovler at least some of the remaining gap may be offset by operating costs that were less than budgeted and added tuition from higher enrollment.
