Bond doubled for Homewood man facing new charges
Friday, November 06, 2009

A judge yesterday doubled the bond for a man recently acquitted of killing a 12-year-old Wilkinsburg boy who now faces new gun charges.

Deputy District Attorney Mark Tranquilli, who heads the office's homicide unit for Allegheny County, asked Judge Randal B. Todd for a $200,000 bond for Donald "Tank" Wilson, 21, of Homewood. Mr. Wilson was being held on $75,000 bond, for which he would have had to pay a percentage to gain his freedom pending trial, although a judge had put a stay on that bond.

Mr. Tranquilli cited Mr. Wilson's juvenile record for indecent assault, possession of a weapon on school property and robbery of a motor vehicle.

Judge Todd instead doubled the bond to $150,000 but also made it straight, meaning the defendant will have to produce the entire amount.

A jury acquitted Mr. Wilson in October of starting the gunfight that led to the killing of Kholen Germany in Wilkinsburg on April 18, 2008.
