I Love you Beth Cooper
Larry Doyle ("The Simpsons") turns his novel into a movie about a nerdy valedictorian (Paul Rust) who proclaims his love for the most popular girl (Hayden Panettiere) in school during his graduation speech. The movie works best when it concentrates on the sweet, quiet moments between Denis and Beth as they talk about their families, future plans and how they see themselves and each other. "I Love You, Beth Cooper" is a bit like Beth Cooper's driving. Fine one minute, sideswiping cars and crashing through walls the next.
Food, Inc.
Director-producer Robert Kenner collaborated with authors Eric Schlosser ("Fast Food Nation") and Michael Pollan ("The Omnivore's Dilemma") for this documentary investigating the disconnect between our food and those bucolic scenes on the cartons, tubs, boxes and other packages lining supermarket shelves. "Food, Inc." advances the notion that factories, not farms, are often "assembly lines where animals and workers are being abused." It traces revolutionary changes in the business to McDonald's and the eventual domination of the meat business by three or four companies.
Aliens in the Attic
Rather silly adventure-comedy about kids on a family vacation who must fight off an attack by knee-high alien invaders, while their parents remain clueless about the wacky warfare.
