Celebrations Spotlight: Danielle Jackson and Christopher Thorn
Wednesday, November 04, 2009

Danielle Jackson and Christopher Thorn, both 32, wed on August 29, 2009. They now reside in Ross Township.

Q: How did you meet?

Chris: We met after a lunchtime concert in Market Square.

Q: Where did you each grow up?

Chris: I grew up in Bloomfield and Danielle grew up in Derry.

Q: Who proposed? How?

Danielle: Chris proposed in my living room after we danced to "our song," Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls.

Q: Where were you married? Why did you choose that site?

Chris: We were married in the church I grew up in, St. Lawrence O'Toole in Garfield.

Danielle: I did not join a church when I moved to Pittsburgh, and it was important for Chris to be married in his church.

Q: Where's the reception and honeymoon? Why did you choose those sites?

Danielle: The reception was at The Cathedral Room at St. Nicholas in Oakland. I chose this venue for several reasons. Primarily, because all of my family was coming from Westmoreland County, I wanted an area that was easily accessible from the parkway and somewhere that they were familiar with. Secondly, I wanted somewhere that had ample parking that you did not have to pay for (a rarity in Oakland). Finally, I liked that it was a blank slate and I could choose any decor I wished. It turned out beautifully!

Chris: We spent our honeymoon in Disney World. We chose this location because Danielle had never been there before. I had been there numerous times with my family and we wanted to spend our first week as a married couple in the "happiest place on earth."

Q: What was the best part? The worst?

Danielle: The best part of the wedding was bringing all of our family and friends together for a celebration. We all had a wonderful time!

Q: Who was the oldest guest? Who came the farthest?

Chris: Danielle's great aunt, 93, and grandmother, 92, were the oldest. Our friends Dana and Scott came all the way from California.

Q: What was new, blue, borrowed at your wedding?

Danielle: Blue was the engagement ring, new was the wedding band (also blue), borrowed were pearl earrings which were not worn.

Q: What was the funniest thing that happened?

Chris: The funniest thing was when the fill-in priest asked the congregation, "Can I get an Amen?" We lost it!

Q: Who was your favorite wedding vendor? Why?

Danielle: All our vendors were fantastic, however Bob, our limo driver from Celebrity Limousines stands out the most. He was a perfect gentleman, assisting me in and out of the car. He walked me into the church, gave me a Sicilian good luck penny and escorted me to my father. We enjoyed having him with us immensely and invited him to the reception, but he declined as it was not professional.

Q: What's the most creative wedding present you were given?

Danielle: We received many wonderful gifts, but the most creative was a beautiful, handmade Celtic cross.
