Allegheny County Council members Michael Finnerty and Matt Drozd -- the only two who faced opposition tonight -- rather easily dispatched their challengers by almost equal double-digit margins.
With about 98 percent of all precincts reporting, Mr. Drozd, 65, a Republican from Ross held an 11-point lead over his challenger, Thomas Michalow, 38, a Democrat from Avalon in the District 1 council race.
The district includes Aleppo, Avalon, Bellevue, Ben Avon, Ben Avon Heights, Coraopolis, Crescent, Edgeworth, Emsworth, Kilbuck, Leet, Leetsdale, Moon, Ross, Sewickley and West View.
Meanwhile, Democrat Michael Finnerty, 64 of Scott held a 10-point lead over his challenger Dean Petrone, 40, a Republican from North Fayette in council's District 4 race.
The district includes Bridgeville, Carnegie, Collier, Crafton. Findlay, Glenfield, Heidelberg, Kennedy, McKees Rocks, Neville, North Fayette, Oakdale, Glen Osborne, Robinson, Rosslyn Farms, Scott and Stowe.
Five other council members, Charles Martoni, D-Swissvale; Bob Macey, D-West Mifflin; Jim Ellenbogen, D-Banksville; James Burn Jr., D-Millvale; and Amanda Green, D-Stanton Heights, were elected without opposition.
