An early morning police chase that began with a traffic violation ended with a fatal crash in the city's Carrick neighborhood.

Police said the chase began in Brentwood after a routine traffic stop about 2:20 a.m. along Becks Run Road. The driver, Devon Holliday, 29, sped away and later crashed into a house in Carrick, where he was ejected from the vehicle.

Mr. Holliday, of Beltzhoover, was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:55 a.m., the Allegheny County medical examiner said.

An autopsy will be conducted later today, the medical examiner said.
