Cranberry supervisors are poised to approve a new hotel.

Supervisors last night held a public hearing on an application from Hampton developer James West for Mallards Landing. The 44-suite, six-story hotel will be built on about 5 acres along Graham School Road near Rochester Road.

The hotel will cater to extended-stay customers, which Supervisor John Milius believes will be welcomed in Cranberry.

"I think there's use for this," he said, adding that Westinghouse's headquarters in the community is drawing many business clients, some of whom need to set up shop in the township for more than a day or two. Occupancy rates for other hotels within the township are generally high.

The hotel was planned to be larger and to include a restaurant, but Planning Director Ron Henshaw said nearby wetlands required a new approach to the facility's design. No restaurant is planned for the hotel.

A vote by township supervisors will be taken at the board's Dec. 3 meeting, to be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Rochester Road municipal center.
