Twenty-two drug-trafficking suspects were rounded up in a sweeping predawn raid yesterday by various law enforcement agencies.
The arrests were the culmination of a four-month investigation by Coraopolis police and agents from the Allegheny County district attorney's office.
While most of the suspects were arrested in Coraopolis, the 35-agent task force also made arrests in Moon and McKees Rocks, with assistance from officers in those two towns.
All are suspected of being low- to mid-level dealers. Six of the suspects were not found yesterday.
Of the 28 targeted, Rodney Spencer, 29, of Coraopolis, was the most notorious among them, said Coraopolis police Chief Alan DeRusso.
Police were regular visitors lately at the home of Mr. Spencer.
"We were just there on Monday. He was charged with aggravated assault," in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, Toni Jacobs, Chief DeRusso said.
Ms. Jacobs, 31, who leases the second floor of the duplex, was among the suspects arrested yesterday.
Chief DeRusso said his officers also served a search warrant at the residence about two weeks ago and seized $5,000 in suspected drug proceeds and various items of drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Still earlier in the month, borough officers served a similar search warrant and seized more items, including a stash of ammunition for a pistol that has not been found.
The couple rent the unit from Coraopolis Councilman Tony Celeste, who lives on the first floor, Chief DeRusso said. Mr. Celeste was not a subject of the raid or the investigation.
Those arrested were arraigned before District Judge Mary Murray, who will preside over the suspects' preliminary hearings Nov. 13.
