The state Health Department has confirmed that a second Allegheny County resident has died of the H1N1 influenza, also known as swine flu.
The department did not identify the victim, but a county health department spokesman said he was a man in his 50s with underlying health conditions. He died earlier this month, but cultures had to be tested before cause of death could be officially declared.
The county's first swine flu victim, a 27-year-old man who died in early September, also had underlying health conditions.
A Butler County woman, Deborah Spangler, 45, of Renfrew, also died of swine flu Sept. 10. She also had a bacterial pneumonia.
