Q: Do you think we will see a successful fade pattern in the endzone to Baldwin this year? That should be an easy six for even a mediocre quarterback. Stull has made great strides this year and he deserves a lot of credit, but this weakness in the offense is just killing me!
David Braun, Fairfax, Va.
ZEISE: Well there are four games left to go. And although there have been a few situations they should have gone to that play, that is N.C. State, it seems to me like things are working well with this offense. Dion Lewis and Henry Hynoski have given the Panthers a better short yardage game than I can remember and Bill Stull is showing he can spread the ball around and make throws in tight spots, so perhaps there will be no need for it.
Q: I see that Dion Lewis played for a prep school before coming to Pitt. Does his playing there (or graduating from there a semester early) meet the same criteria that both LeSean McCoy and Larry Fitzgerald did playing at a prep school in order to leave Pitt after 2 years, or is he here for the long haul?
Bryan Mack, Cranberry
ZEISE: No, he can't leave until he plays three seasons with the Panthers because his prep school experience was as a high school student and not, like McCoy, as a post-high school student. That is a big distinction because the rule is very clear: At least three seasons must pass between your final year of high school and when you are eligible for the draft. Now, if he keeps rolling like this -- after his junior season, I'd say you can forget about him coming back for a fourth season because he'll be a very high draft pick.
Q: Why haven't the defensive end's been able to dominate? Are they hurt? How do they grade out at the halfway point?
Frank Stosic, Munhall
ZEISE: They've actually played well the past few weeks though their numbers don't reflect it. One thing that is happening is that teams are aware of them and are setting up to try and stop them and are using help in passing situations. But if you talk to coaches, they have both graded out well the past two weeks. I think one thing that is clear is that as teams have paid more attention to them, the tackles have become far more productive, and either way the job is getting done.
