The Mars Area School District is looking for a few good crew members.
Superintendent William Pettigrew said last night that he met with representatives of the Three Rivers Rowing Association, who want to recruit Mars Area students in grades 7 through 12.
"Their goal down the road is someday Mars would have a rowing team," Dr. Pettigrew said.
The rowing association would do presentations to the gym classes with a rowing machine, he added.
Solicitor Tom King noted that rowing team members often can receive college scholarships. "There are tons of crew scholarships, especially for women," he said.
The Three Rivers Rowing Association is based at Washington's Landing along the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh.
"When I am crossing the 62nd Street Bridge at 6 a.m., they're out there," board member Christine Stroup said.
