Thursday, October 22, 2009

An Armstrong County man today was arrested after he crashed his car in Tarentum during a police chase that started after a robbery in Harrison.

Antoine McDaniel, 32, is awaiting arraignment on charges that include robbery, fleeing and eluding, reckless endangerment and various traffic violations, police said.

Police in neighboring Tarentum, which also monitors radio calls in Harrison, heard the report of a robbery at Phillippi's Family Dining & Pizzeria on Freeport Road.

The suspect was said to be driving a blue Ford Taurus station wagon southbound on Route 28.

That is where Tarentum police Office Mark Gogowski was headed onto the highway as the suspect car exited.

Officer Gogowski said he made a U-turn and tried to cut off the suspect, who skirted around him.

Thecar then crossed a low concrete median on Ross Street in Tarentum, hopped a sidewalk and crashed into a small display window at Gatto Cycle Shop on Seventh Avenue.

Mr. McDaniel suffered minor injuries.

Money in the form of bills of varying denominations were strewn about his vehicle, Officer Gogowski said.

No other injuries were reported.
