Business Notes

LG Realty Advisors and Investcorp International said its Penn Center East Office Complex has a new lease signed with Paul C. Rizzo Associates Inc. Penn Center East is a combination of upscale offices and retail businesses located on Route 22 in Wilkins.

The Heinz Endowments is seeking proposals for a media audit that would analyze how local Pittsburgh newspapers and television newscasts frame stories about African-American men and boys. The project is one of several efforts initiated by the foundation's African-American Men and Boys Task Force, which was created in 2007 to increase the educational, economic, social and leadership opportunities for black men and boys in the Pittsburgh region.

The purpose of the media analysis is to determine what frames/stories exist about African-American males; how these stories affect them; and what can be done to develop new frames/stories that change the way African-American men and boys are viewed by others and themselves. An intended outcome of this work is to challenge the Pittsburgh news media to make their reporting more reflective of all the stories, both positive and negative, emerging from the black community.

The project's budget range is $30,000 to $40,000, not including expenses, and proposals are due by Oct. 30. A consultant or consulting team will be selected in November, with work expected to begin by January and to be completed within six months of the start date.
