Thursday, October 22, 2009

Amy Colalella, a 16-year-old from Plum, is one of six finalists in Miley Cyrus' online "Be a Star" contest at www.mileycyrus.com.

Colalella, a Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School student, entered the contest, along with 5,000 others, by submitting a video clip singing Demi Lovato's "Two Worlds Collide." It got her in the top 30. She moved into the top 10 doing two Cyrus songs and reached the final six with Michael Jackson's "Smile." In this round, contestants were asked to pick a Beatles song, and Colalella does "Yesterday" on acoustic guitar.

The grand prize is a record deal.

"Listen Up With Andrew Druckenbrod" and "The Beat With Scott Mervis" are available exclusively at PG+, a members-only web site of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Our introduction to PG+ gives you all the details.
