Findlay supervisors are set to review proposals tonight for improvements to the intersection of Route 30 and Clinton Road in the heart of the Clinton village district.
As part of a $12,000 contract with the township, traffic engineering firm PBS&J will present two conceptual plans to correct sight distance, accommodate large trucks, allow better traffic flow and address other problems.
Because the roads are state owned, supervisors aim to present a plan to the state Department of Transportation and lobby for the agency to take up the project, township Manager Gary Klingman said.
"From a safety perspective, as well as congestion, this will really help," Mr. Klingman said.
"It's just an inferior intersection because over time, things around here have grown up, and there's more traffic."
The engineering proposals likely will involve adding turn lanes, re-timing traffic lights and removing buildings to widen the roadway.
Mr. Klingman said the proposals were sought after The Maronda Foundation, the nonprofit arm of Maronda Homes Inc., expressed a willingness to donate two properties it owns to make way for improvements -- the former Mamone's Restaurant, at the northwest corner of the intersection, and an unoccupied house near the northeast corner.
Plans also could include shifting the end of Washington Road to better align with Clinton Road, Mr. Klingman said. Washington Road, also named State Route 3089, runs roughly between the Clinton post office and the Findlay municipal building.
The $12,000 for the engineering work was funded by Findlay's traffic impact fees, which were collected from developers.
