Why pay for commercials?

After reading the article regarding the new CineMark theater opening in Robinson, I would like to suggest a marketing tactic for the theaters to help increase attendance.

Stop the incessant encroachment of commercials and excessive number of previews!

At a recent movie night out (and possibly the last) we attended a movie at the Mt. Lebanon Galleria.

The movie start time was listed as 7 p.m., and after being held captive watching commercials and previews, the main feature finally started at 7:22.

And we paid almost $10 apiece for the privilege ...

So I'm revving up my Netflix account, and kicking back to wait for the blockbusters to be released on DVD, when I can crank up my home theater and control the schedule, and have a fast forward control.

Dining review trivial

It is with total disbelief that I read China Millman's comments and summary rating of Bona Terra (Oct. 8). This restaurant boasts one of Pittsburgh's most acknowledged, creative and environmentally aware chefs.

Indeed, Ms. Millman applauds chef Douglass Dick's masterful creations, preparations and presentations as well as his use of seasonal and locally grown foods. She rated the food excellent. Her focus, thereafter, on the physical space and the restaurant decor is finicky, focusing on trivial details.

A visitor finds the dining rooms clean, pleasant and inviting. Never have I found tablecloths to be "patched and wrinkled," nor have servers dropped silverware, or anything else, during my frequent visits to Bona Terra. It is absurd that Ms. Millman gives a low overall rating to one of Pittsburgh's finest restaurants, based on perceived atmosphere rather than on exquisite cuisine.
