State and local police have been searching for an elderly Butler County man who was reported missing this afternoon after he failed to return home.

State police in Butler said Burton Duerring, 87, of Beaver Dam Road in Clay was last seen shortly after 1:30 p.m. walking his dog in a wooded area near his home. State police were notified at 4:18.

Police were using helicopters and search dogs. Also numerous firefighters from throughout the county are assisting in the search.

Mr. Duerring was last seen wearing blue jeans, a fleece camouflage coat and camouflage hat.
