Bridge work to close Parkway East
Tuesday, October 20, 2009

The outbound Parkway East will be closed for four nights from Business Route 22 (Exit 80) to Plum/Monroeville (Exit 84) during placement of beams for the new bridge that will carry Jefferson Heights Road over the parkway, PennDOT announced this afternoon.

Lane closures will occur in both directions in coming days, and the work is expected to cause significant delays, PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said.

The outbound parkway will be fully closed from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday; 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday; 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday; and 7 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Other restrictions will occur starting on Thursday.

One lane will close outbound in the area of the Garden City Drive overpass from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Two outbound lanes will remain open. Two of the three lanes in the same area will be closed from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The right lane on the outbound side will be closed from 5 a.m. Thursday in the area of the Jefferson Heights bridge project just east of the Penn Hills interchange, during staging work for the beam placement.

Inbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday in the Jefferson Heights area just east of Penn Hills.

Inbound traffic will be reduced to one lane between Plum (Exit 84) and Penn Hills (Exit 81) from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
