Shelly Anderson: OK, we're live today from Mellon Arena after the Penguins and Blues practiced here. Shoot me some questions.
James_Taipei: Do you see Jordan Staal breaking the 30 goal barrier this year?
Shelly Anderson: I'm not one for predictions, but there's no question Jordan Staal has the ability to be a 30-goal scorer in the NHL at some point, and perhaps consisently. At 21, he has done things kind of backward -- he came into the league with great defensive skills for a center and has gotten better offensively. It also helps that he's part of an established line now with wingers Matt Cooke and Tyler Kennedy.
James_Taipei: How can the Penguins avoid ending up as one of those teams that has a great regular season and then gets knocked out in the first round of the playoffs? Assuming they can maintain their fast start!
Shelly Anderson: I think you can look at the character of the team and the effect a dynamic coach like Dan Bylsma has on the players. There no doubt will be some rough patches during the regular season, but even if the Penguins top 100 points, it's highly doubtful someone as intense as team captain Sidney Crosby will tolerate any sort of postseason letdown. One other thing -- although the Penguins are 7-1, it's not as if they have been duplicating their playoff intensity, so there's little chance at this point of burnout.
Shelly Anderson: I guess there aren't a lot of questions about a team that keeps winning. We'll see what happens as this home stand unfolds and meet here again next Monday.
