McKees Rocks Bridge to close this weekend
Monday, October 19, 2009

The McKees Rocks Bridge will be closed in both directions for construction work this weekend, PennDOT announced today.

The bridge will close from 7 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. The detour for most of the weekend will be via the West End Bridge, but after the Steelers game Sunday, that bridge is open to outbound traffic only. Motorists going the other way will be sent on a circuitous route via the West End Bypass, outbound Parkway West, Banksville Road exit, inbound Parkway West, Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne bridges to Route 65.

The bridge will reopen to a single lane of traffic in each direction on Monday. Single-lane traffic will remain in place through mid-November, PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said.

The bridge is undergoing a $6.8 million rehabilitation. Lane restrictions have been in place since June.
