Brentwood upsets No. 5 Springdale

After an 0-4 start Brentwood has now won three in a row after a 12-7 upset win against No. 5 Springdale (5-2, 3-2) last night at Brentwood.

In an Eastern Conference game where all 19 points were scored in the second quarter, Brentwood (3-4, 3-2) took a 6-0 lead on a Danny Lucas 3-yard touchdown run. The Dynamos took their only lead of the game when Bill Arch raced 78 yards for a touchdown, but the Spartans responded when Cory Bauer found Lucas for a 22-yard touchdown pass.

OTHER GAMES
Laurel 37 Monaca 13

The No. 2-ranked Spartans (6-1, 4-1) fell behind, 7-0, early but responded with 30 unanswered points at Spartan Stadium to defeat Big Seven conference rival Monaca (4-3, 3-2).

Spartans quarterback Tyler Forbes rushed for a touchdown and connected with Shane Caldararo for 43-yard and 46-yard touchdown passes.

Rochester 42 Neshannock 0

Top-ranked Rochester (7-0, 5-0) had touchdowns from five different players in a shutout win against visiting Neshannock (2-5, 1-4).

Jasson Adamson threw three first-half touchdown passes as the host Rams led, 35-0, at the break.

North Catholic 21 Riverview 0

The Trojans' three big offensive weapons struck pay dirt in the second quarter as No. 4-ranked North Catholic (5-2, 5-0) shut out Riverview (3-4, 3-2) at J.C. Stone Field.

Martin Long rushed for a 1-yard touchdown and completed touchdown passes to Matt Fedzen (78 yards) and Julian Durden (5 yards).

Clairton 53 Burgettstown 0

Clairton's Deontae Howard needed only four carries to gain 181 yards and score three touchdowns. The No. 3-ranked Bears (6-1, 5-0) held the host Blue Devils (3-4, 2-3) to minus-3 yards of total offense.

Avonworth 21 Leechburg 6

The Avonworth defense accounted for two scores as the Antelopes (6-1, 4-1) got past Leechburg (0-7, 0-5) on the road. Brian Vales and Ryan Schmid both returned interceptions for touchdowns for Avonworth.

Beth-Center 3 California 0

Beth-Center (5-2, 4-1) outgained visiting California (4-3, 3-2) in yardage, 211-39, but the Bulldogs needed a Kyle Colborn 19-yard field goal with 2 seconds left to play to clinch the win against the Trojans in a Tri-County South game.

Monessen 43, Jefferson-Morgan 21

Tied, 14-14, at halftime, Monessen (5-2, 5-0) opened the half with five consecutive touchdowns to turn a back-and-forth game into a rout against the Rockets (5-2, 3-2) at Monessen's Memorial Stadium. Brett Crenshaw rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns for the Greyhounds.

Serra 28 Chartiers-Houston 7

Serra raced to a 21-0 lead against host Chartiers-Houston (4-3, 2-3) as the Eagles improved to 6-1 and 4-1 in Black Hills Conference play.

Fort Cherry 49 Frazier 14

Special teams were key for Fort Cherry (5-2, 3-2) and Nick Hurley returned two punts for touchdowns as his team rolled past host Frazier (3-4, 2-3) in the Black Hills Conference.

Mapletown 32 West Greene 26

Cory Minnick scored on a 5-yard rush in overtime to give Mapletown (1-6, 1-4) its first win of the season in a battle of winless Tri-County South teams against the host Pioneers (0-7, 0-5).

Bentworth 28 Avella 18

Bentworth (2-5, 1-4) held off visiting Avella (2-5, 1-4) to pick up its first Black Hills Conference win. Benjamin Gregg scored two touchdown runs for the Bearcats.
