Elderly woman who suffered burns in Bridgeville fire dies
Wednesday, October 14, 2009

An elderly woman who suffered massive burns in a fire Monday night has died.

Dorothy Haskins, 86, died at 10:40 a.m. yesterday in the West Penn Hospital Burn Center. Complications from the fire contributed to her death, though the precise cause is pending results of an autopsy this afternoon, the Allegheny County medical examiner said.

Ms. Haskins was among about 120 tenants forced to evacuate the Bridgeville Towers, an 11-story assisted living complex on Bank Street in the borough.

The fire was reported around 7 p.m. in her fourth-floor apartment.

The cause still was being investigated yesterday.

"For all intents and purposes, it seems to be accidental," county Fire Marshal Don Brucker said Monday night.

None of the other tenants was injured, investigators said.
