A state police fire marshal has been summoned to the scene of a suspicious blaze that destroyed an eight-unit apartment building this morning in Beaver County.
Fire Chief Jack Hogue said the fire at 504 Lincoln Street in Rochester started somewhere in the back of the old brick building.
When his firefighters were dispatched at 1:48 a.m., the blaze was described as fully-involved, the chief said.
No one was seriously hurt but one resident required stitches for a leg wound, Chief Hogue said. All the families living in the apartment building will be looking for new homes, he added.
"It's going to have to be condemned,'' Chief Hogue said of the building.
He said he believes six of the eight units were occupied.
It will take several days to compile a total damage estimate but he said the loss of the building alone amounts to about $110,000.
The blaze was under control by 6 a.m. though firefighters remained at the scene on standby longer.
The American Red Cross will be assisting residents, the chief said.
