A mass water shut-off may occur early next month in Carnegie in an effort to collect $350,000 in delinquent sewage bills.
Borough Manager Whitney Brady said yesterday any resident or property owner with an account that is more than 31 days past due will lose water service at 4 p.m. Nov. 2.
She wasn't sure how many delinquent accounts are on the books except to say the number is "a lot." Residents who pay for their own sewer service and landlords who incorporate such costs in their rents may be affected if their accounts are overdue. Some delinquencies date to 2007.
"It's a lot of money and it's only going to get higher," she said.
To clear as many accounts as possible and to avoid water shutoffs, the borough is sending three notices to delinquents. The first letter already has gone out and looks for payment by Monday, Ms. Brady said. Other letters will be mailed Oct. 13 and Oct. 22 to overdue account holders.
Partial payments may be made until the shutoff date when all back wastewater charges are due in full.
