Gateway has been one of the surprise teams in WPIAL girls' soccer this season, with the Gators dropping just one game.
Last night, that lone loss was avenged.
Freshman Carly Seneca scored on a breakaway with two minutes left to give host Gateway a 1-0 victory against No. 5 Fox Chapel in Class AAA, Section 3.
Gateway goalkeeper Corrie Mastalski made eight saves.
The Gators (11-1-1, 9-1-1) fell to the Foxes (12-2, 10-1) earlier in the season, 1-0.
"We played a very organized game," Gateway coach Chris Spudich said. "We didn't want to chase them. You can't be impatient against a team like that."
No. 1-ranked Moon (12-0-1, 10-0) remained perfect with a 7-0 victory at Ambridge (3-9, 2-7) in Section 7. MacKenzie Reese scored twice for the Tigers, who have given up only one goal this season.
Rachel Ritchey scored three goals and Bethany Smyda chipped in with four assists to vault No. 6 Penn-Trafford (11-3-1, 10-1) to a 5-1 victory at Latrobe (8-5, 6-5) in Section 1.
Mars (9-3-1, 7-3-1) jumped into second place in Section 2 after blanking visiting North Allegheny (9-4, 7-4), 3-0. Lexie Mastro scored twice for the Planets.
Also in Section 2, Pine-Richland (6-5-3, 5-3-3) got two goals from Stacey Weismann in a 5-1 victory against visiting North Hills (6-7-1, 3-7-1).
Cassie Raymond and Jaclyn Wolf scored two goals apiece to lead No. 1 South Park (12-1, 10-0) to an 8-0 victory at Beth-Center (2-10, 0-9) in Section 1.
Jenna Ehrlich's two goals helped Burrell (6-7, 4-6) upset visiting Deer Lakes (8-4-1, 5-3), 3-1, in Section 3.
Chelsea Miller scored three goals and Darla Sebbens added two in Greensburg Central Catholic's (11-3-1, 7-2) 7-0 victory at East Allegheny (1-9, 0-8) in Section 6.
Jonquil Schaller scored three goals to help visiting Schenley (5-3-4, 5-0-3) move its unbeaten streak to six games with a 6-0 rout of Carrick (2-8, 2-6).
Sydney Soberdash scored with less than a minute left in the first overtime to lift Connellsville (8-7, 7-4) to a 1-0 triumph at Yough (7-7, 5-6) in Class AAA Section 6.
Jules Femiani's two goals were the difference as Peters Township edged Fox Chapel, 2-1, in Class AAA Section 2.
Brittany Borkovich's 2-over 37 at Irwin Country Club paced Penn-Trafford in a 168-186 victory against Norwin in Section 1.
Marissa DeCola fired an even-par 36 at Delmar Golf Course to help Butler blow past Ellwood City, 183-224, in Section 3.
Schenley advanced to the City League championship after earning a 5-0 victory against Perry. The Spartans will face top-seed Allderdice at 3:30 p.m. today at the Highland Park Courts.
