Wednesday, October 07, 2009

Pittsburgh police said they believe a man found this morning in Bloomfield committed suicide using a revolver.

Ryan P. Stokes, 34, of Lawrenceville, was found in the grass of Friendship Park after a passerby called police around 7:30 a.m.

Mr. Stokes had a gunshot wound under his chin and a .38 caliber revolver lying in his armpit.

Police found a suicide note in Mr. Stokes' apartment in the 4200 block of Sherrod Street earlier this morning. Police visited the apartment when they received a request to check on Mr. Stokes' well-being. Police said the phone call was placed by Mr. Stokes' girlfriend.

Police also said a witness saw Mr. Stokes pacing back and forth in the park with a backpack between 3 and 4 a.m.

According to police, nobody reported hearing a gunshot.
