Three men from Allegheny County, including one identified as a former Swissvale police officer, have been charged with taking advantage of a glitch in a machine at the Meadows Casino to get it to pay them $400,000.
At a press conference this afternoon at the casino, Washington County District Attorney Steven Toprani said the men manipulated a casino employee into adjusting the software on a poker machine. They then took advantage of the "glitch" to get it to pay them $420,000 over a two-month period. Some details of the scheme were not released, but it involved exploiting the double-up feature of the machine to trigger the software glitch.
The suspects were indicted Friday.
They were identified as Andre Nestor, 37, and Kerry Laverde, 49, both of Swissvale; and Patrick Loushil, 42, of Brookline. Authorities identified Laverde as a former Swissvale policeman.
They are charged with theft, unlawful use of a computer and other offenses.
Authorities were in the process of arresting the men today.
