A jury acquitted a Lincoln-Lemington man this afternoon in the 2006 death of North Braddock man.
The first trial for James Henry Johnson, in July, in the shooting death of Kenneth Alford Jr., 27, ended in a hung jury. The prosecution contended that Mr. Johnson shot the victim in the neck as he descended steps leading to Paulson Playground in Lincoln-Lemington. Police said the gunman jumped out of a black Cadillac sedan and fired at Mr. Alford.
After the jury forewoman announced "not guilty" verdicts on first- and third-degree murder, the 27-year-old defendant, who was on his feet, leaned forward on his fingertips against the defense counsel table. A woman then ran from the room, crying and shrieking, "He killed my baby! He killed my baby!" Two female jurors began to cry.
Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge David R. Cashman ordered Mr. Johnson back to the county jail to await trial on other pending cases, including one in which the federal marshals have a detainer for him.
