Bakerstown Road will be closed until further notice at the intersection with Saxonburg Boulevard in West Deer after inspectors found deterioration on a bridge over railroad tracks, PennDOT announced today.
The bridge carries Bakerstown Road over Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad tracks. Known as the Culmerville Truss, it is owned by the railroad company, PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said. The 135-foot long, single span deck truss bridge was built in 1921 and last rehabilitated in 1991, he said.
The closure was to take effect at 3 p.m. today, he said. A detour will be posted until the railroad fixes the bridge. About 4,500 vehicles per day use it, Mr. Struzzi said.
