Yulian Lustiv scored in the first overtime last night to lead host Mars to a 2-1 win against Hampton in a showdown of two top-four teams in the Post-Gazette's WPIAL Class AA boys' soccer rankings.

The No. 1 Planets (10-1, 7-0) won their seventh in a row and opened up a two-game lead in Section 2 over the No. 4 Talbots (8-2, 5-2), whom they have swept this season.

• Colin Seigfreid had two goals as Class AAA No. 6 Central Catholic (8-1-1, 5-0-1) beat host Gateway (8-3, 4-3), 5-1, in a Section 3 game.

• Mark Tomich scored twice with assists from Jordan Redfield in leading Belle Vernon (8-3-1, 5-2-1) to a 2-0 victory against host Thomas Jefferson (4-5-1, 3-3-1) in a Class AA Section 3 contest.

• Freedom won its sixth in a row, a 3-1 Class A Section 5 win against host New Brighton (3-6, 3-4). Luke Messing had two goals for the Bulldogs (8-1, 7-0).

• Freshman Yayoi Furuhata scored her first career goal 1:50 into overtime as Class AAA No. 10 Fox Chapel (9-1, 7-0) remained undefeated in Section 3 with a 1-0 win at Hampton (4-4-1, 3-3-1).

• Class AAA No. 1 Moon (10-0-1, 7-0) continued to cruise in Section 7, winning, 7-0, against visiting West Allegheny (1-8-1, 0-7). Jordan Calabria had two goals and three assists for the Tigers, who have outscored their opponents, 43-1, this season.

• Alyssa Mazzarini had all three of her team's goals in leading visiting Chartiers Valley (7-5) to a 3-1 non-section win against South Fayette (6-3-1).

• Michael Pope of Mohawk shot a 2-over 74 to take low-scorer honors at The Links at Spring Church in Apollo in a WPIAL individual golf semifinal yesterday.

Each of four sites qualifies 12 golfers for the WPIAL boys' golf individual championship Oct. 7 at Butler Country Club in Butler. Three of the four were contested yesterday; the semifinal at Champion Lakes Golf Club will be held today.

• Bethel Park teammates David Ross and Chris Bowen each shot a 3-over 75 to lead all golfers at a WPIAL semifinal at Lindenwood Golf Course in Canonsburg.

• Sewickley Academy senior Ian Bangor and West Allegheny sophomore Garrett Browning each shot a 4-over 76 in the WPIAL semifinal at Pittsburgh National Golf Club in West Deer.
