The renovation of the Montour High School stadium is complete, with artificial turf, new bleachers and a new press box. But most of those attending last night's school board meeting were more interested in talking about conditions inside the school, where a renovation project that began in 2007 will run through 2012.
Resident Steve Taylor criticized the apparent use of used ceiling tiles to create a roof in the cafeteria, the unsealed concrete floor and the use of unfit rooms for science experiments.
He also said there were plans for a new school as far back as 2004.
"My sons were in third grade when they were promised a new school," he said. "Now they're never going to have one."
School board president Bill Ewonce said the board has been moving as quickly as possible, but was forced to start over when construction bids came in over budget last year.
